Wigan Bus Station
Supplying lightweight aluminium honeycomb panels to infill fascias for Wigan Bus Station
Gilcrest Manufacturing produced a large number of lightweight aluminium honeycomb infill panels which were then cut and bonded to back anodised aluminium fascias for the brand new Wigan Bus Station development.
The brand new £15.7m redevelopment of the bus station in Wigan Town Centre features nineteen stands which will be fully accessible by a covered passenger concourse, with designated waiting areas as well as information points and seating.
Bailey Total Building Envelope manufactured and supplied the striking Red and White anodised aluminium fascia and soffit ‘shells’. These were then backed with our 10mm Aluminium Honeycomb core panels.
Gilcrest Manufacturing manufactured FM Approved composite panels to feature a 9mm aluminium honeycomb core with 0.5mm aluminium backer to each side. As part of the service the expert Gilcrest manufacturing team bonded the panels to the inner face of the anodised soffit and fascia panels.
The addition of aluminium honeycomb panels provided the fascia’s with strength and durability whilst remaining lightweight, water resistant and with a strict flatness tolerance.
Gilcrest Manufacturing panels went under a number of tests to ensure they complied with fire regulations whilst remaining suitable for the application. This included trialling and selecting an adhesive that provided the tensile strength required to bond the panels whilst keep the calorific value low to reduce fire risk to an absolute minimum.
Our panels are FM Approved to Class 4882 and Class A Surface Spread of Flame as per the ASTM E84 Flame Spread Testing.
The project is a fine example of Gilcrest’s bespoke abilities to manufacture composite panels exact to requirements, to take on testing of materials and go beyond to include a service to bond the panels. The whole team at Gilcrest Manufacturing are proud to be part of such a striking project.
