Project Details
Requirements
Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital needed to expand their facilities to meet the growing demand for clinical trial manufacturing of new cell and gene therapy treatments. The specification called for ISO 7 cleanrooms with Grade A processing areas to support these advanced therapeutic processes. The challenging environment of operating within a functioning hospital in Central London added significant complexity to the project requirements, demanding careful coordination and minimal disruption to ongoing medical operations.
Solution
The solution encompassed 275m2 of panels finished in white food-safe, vision panels, and all associated ancillary components, with initial design support commencing in early 2024. The system incorporated embedded dado rails throughout the installation to maintain cleanroom integrity while providing essential utility integration. Due to the complexity of the hospital environment and the critical need to minimise installation time on site, bespoke panel designs were developed specifically for this project. These custom solutions were complemented by detailed delivery schedules featuring room-by-room panel deliveries, ensuring seamless coordination with the hospital’s operational requirements. Specialised door headers were engineered to integrate maglock systems, maintaining security protocols essential for pharmaceutical manufacturing environments. Throughout the project, comprehensive site support was provided to ensure any unforeseen challenges were swiftly addressed without impacting project schedules, recognising the critical nature of maintaining healthcare facility operations during the installation process.
Results
The cleanroom system was successfully delivered and installed according to the demanding project timeline, enabling Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital to commence their expanded cell and gene therapy clinical trial manufacturing operations without delay. The bespoke panel solutions and room-by-room delivery approach proved effective in minimising disruption to the hospital’s ongoing medical services, while the embedded dado rail system and specialised door headers performed to specification.

Testimonial
"The products performed to a high standard, were straightforward to install, and provided the level of finish and compliance required for this critical environment. We are very pleased with the outcome and with the performance of the Puracore system on this project and look forward to continuing our successful relationship with Gilcrest on future projects."
